Kathor Medical Trust was established in year 1994 and is run by elected trustees. We already successfully run a charitable dispensary (out patients) since 1994 and presently see 90 to 100 patients everyday. We also provide specialist consultations in obstretic, gynaecology, optalmology, orthopedic, pediotic and also provide dental treatment. There is no charitable hospital in this village, where the majority of people are living below the poverty line. An average earning for labourers is approximately, Rupees 100-125 per day equal to GB £1.25 to 1.50. Canadian dollar 2.50 to 3. South African Rand 22 to 23 & Euro 1.90 to 2. These people live in make shift houses in ‘ghettos’ in overcrowded conditions without any sanitary facilities and pure water and hence they are more prone to infections, diseases, malaria, dysentery, T.B. etc. Due to insufficient food they suffer from malnutrition, (particularly babies) anaemia etc. As the poor can not afford the expense of hospital treatment, we are going to build a charitable hospital, charging the minimum consulting fees for treatment including the bills of various types of treatment in the hospital. The poor and needy people of Kathor as well as the surrounding villages will receive a critical benefit from this charity hospital. 18 months ago the trustees decided to build a charitable hospital in the town of Kathor with the aim of providing in-patient, out-patient facilities for maternity, obstretics, surgical and medical cases. With the help of some local donations we started the building work 18 months ago and have already constructed 2 floors at the cost of Rs 78,00,000/- (Rs 7.8 million). The total project with building cost, all the medical gadgets-X ray machines, scans, operation theaters and instruments, is estimated at approximately Rs 43.3 millions i.e equal to GB £555,000/- South African Rand 76,63,800/- Canadian $ 9,84,000/- & Euro 6,56,000/-.
